Gearing up for the The Hague Conference on Afghanistan

At Radio Netherlands Wordwide, we’re busy gearing up for a one-day UN Conference on Afghanistan, which will take place on March 31st in The Hague. There will be a dedicated website and we will report in several languages. Including our ’standard’ languages (nine, ranging from Dutch to Arabic), an effort will be made to report in the two main languages of Afghanistan as well: Dari and Pashto. As the conference takes only one day, there will be special internet and video teams on the spot to provide you with fast and relevant reporting.
The agenda of the conference hasn’t been published yet, but the latest information is that it will be formally opened by UN Secretary-General Ban ki-Moon, President Hamid Karzai and the Dutch Foreign Minister, Maxime Verhagen. The morning session will then be chaired by Kai Eide of Norway, head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA). Countries and organisations such as NATO and the EU are expected to make statements during the morning session; after lunch, a plenary discussion will follow.

Further details to follow, once available.
