ZNBC workers want to remove acting DG

Unionised workers at the Zambian National Broadcasting Cooperation (ZNBC) yesterday held a meeting and agreed to demand the removal of acting Director-General Juliana Mwila.

The Zambian Watchdog has been informed that the workers are also upset by government failure to take action on the audit report that revealed thefts of billions of money from the institution that does not even have enough cameras. The unions, National Union for Communication Workers (NUCW) and Zambia Union for Broadcasters and other Information Disseminators (ZUBID) also accused Ms Mwila of dictatorship and love of publicity. They claim that she demands to appear on television clips whenever she attends public functions.

The office of director general at ZNBC became vacant following the dismissal of Joseph Salasini when it was revealed that K6 billion was misappropriated from the institution. Ms Mwila was seconded from the Ministry of Information to take up the job in acting capacity.
