WorldSpace relaunches as 1worldspace

1worldspace logoWorldSpace, which has been in serious financial difficulties, has relaunched as 1worldspace.  The company is rolling out a new website, though some of the links are still to pages on the old website. All the overseas offices have been re-named, but the regional websites still bear the old name and logo.

I don’t suppose renaming the company and creating a new website suggests that they’re getting ready to quit the business…not that I can say 1worldspace is anything less than a mouthful. I don’t get why it should be necessary to rename the company though…they can’t think the name change alone can make any difference. Perhaps they is some legal reason for doing so.

I suspect there’s much more to it than a simple re-naming of the company, but since there has been no press release or Stock Market announcement, it’s just conjecture. What is clear, though, is that this relaunch has been planned for some time - you don’t create a new logo and website literally overnight. To be continued…

I, unfortunately, have been involved in one station’s attempted re-launch. Asking a tiger to change its stripes didn’t work for us; I can’t see it working for Worldspace, either. (And we had the capital…)

Benny,I agree with you;relaunching R.Luxembourg English Service as a classic rock station serving a UK only audience with a highly directional tx beam via digital radio mondiale stereo on shortwave and online hasn\’t worked very well at all, if it had come back as it used to be:a really good international commercial music station that targeted european and international listeners as used to happen and targeted all of Europe and beyond with two omnidirectional 360deg beam pan-european 24:7 DRM-SW stereo frequencies at a decent 100kW power/digital stereo satellite via Eurobird1 in Skydigital and a single worldwide omnidirectional DRM-SW stereo wavelength at 200kW power it would be a damned spectacular success! A relaunch of Worldspace will fail.

I wonder though, must it be a sign of weakness that Worldspace is launching this new face? I feel as though it is reaching out to a broader audience, and while the company itself may have a ways to go before it can truly live to this new young, hip vibe, it does give something to aspire to. Given, I am an optimist and I hope that the true essence and mission of worldspacde cannot be taken down by negative comments and inaccuracies such as those written by Mr. Forrester. Who knows, maybe this Noah has what it takes, and maybe we’ll all be blown out of the water, I sure hope so.

I am from India…was a regular subscriber of WorldSpace…my payment is good through 2011 BUT worldspace is off the air for the past few months here and NONE OF THEIR CONTACT ‘PHONES in India are currently reachable. My music is gone…and so is my money!
Where are you guys? How do I get in touch with you? Will the satellite service be restored? How? When? Whom to contact & how?? AAAH….
