Ted Lipien writes: The Voice of Russia’s (VOR) English website has ignored the poisoning death in London of Alexander Litvinenko, a former KGB agent who became a strong critic of President Putin. The state-funded radio station has been silent in recent years about a number of controversial news developments that proved to be highly embarrassing for President Putin.
In contrast to the Voice of Russia’s reporting, notes Mr Lipien, Moscow’s newly created 24-hour English-language satellite television news channel, Russia Today, has covered the Litvinenko story at some length. While it reported on the Western media allegations of possible links between the poisoning of Mr Litvinenko and the FSB Russian security service, the successor to the KGB, Russia Today focused largely on challenging such reports as unsubstantiated speculations.
