The VOA website carries the following announcement for listeners in Ethiopia:
The Voice of America launched satellite transmission of the daily Amharic language programs for our audience in Ethiopia over the weekend.
The international broadcasting agency launched this new means of transmission in order to overcome the jamming being conducted by the Government of Ethiopia. Please let us know if you have heard the show on this satellite service. We are exploring other alternatives so check our web site for further developments.
Our new satelllite feed is live, so tune in The Big Dish at the normal 9 p.m. [1800 UTC] shortwave broadcast hour in Ethiopia.
If you have New Skies 57 in the Indian Ocean Region,
- Downlink frequency is 4055 Mhz
- FEC: 3/4
- Symbol Rate if 26.0 Msym/s
- Network ID is 3
- Virtual Channel 438/2R

This is a channel on a big IBB feed package, also known as IOR (Indian Ocean Relay).
I wonder if VOA Amharic is new on NSS 12 at all. It goes out via the IBB transmitters in Sri Lanka, and they can be fed neither via Intelsat 907 (the “Atlantic Ocean Relay” position) like IBB Sao Tomé and Sentech Meyerton nor via Hotbird like Media Broadcast Nauen/Wertachtal. Thus I suspect the referenced NSS 12 audio channel carried it before, too, just without being announced and pointed out to editorial staff because it was considered as internal feed until now.

I have left my name out just because of fear of ….
i believe VOA transmission in amharic can be heard better if transmitted by arabsat free to air sattelite because most people have little dish and are tuned to arabsat

Hay VOA, Thanks for your effort to share informations but at this time at rural areas farmers very upsted due to jammed of VOA program. all most all farmers couldn\’t know the problem but i heard that some of the farmers and woyane kadries said it is protected by the government. and governmet has a lot power to overcome foreigh media that is why VOA program jammed said the kadries, so please voa please look for other methods to share informations especially to rural areas community.

i think we loose only some basic information form you, but most of the information you provide is not as such important. So why you people tries to disseminate information to our society, your word, saying and information forward to our people is fact less. you are very bis and most of you live in VOA radio station have a political complex.
VOA have not good dream to Ethiopia. you always talking war and bad news.
i know there is problem in Ethiopia, but you are highly exaggerated and mis the main point from this point VOA is not neutral.
VOA always have a slogan of “terror”.
Any ways we Ethiopian live with love and continue our development as well as try to solve problems by our selfs!!!

Allah has given me A democratic write by birth. to speak, to listen, to see, but I could not be able to practice any of them. I was stolen in daylight.
by those who preach about democracy 24/7. by Ethiopian Government.
on Aug 23rd, 2010 at 11:28
What is going on in Ethiopia???? TPLF won the election by 99.6% kkkkkk. What a stupid democracy?? This is far from the truth. We want multi party system - We don\’t want to be ruled by a dictator. A true democracy is the corner stone for Ethiopian development, or else we are going to sink in a civil war that is going to eliminate woyane and bring about several new nations in East Africa.
