Venezuela to unveil Radiosur initiative at Latin American summit

The Caracas newspaper El Nacional reported on 6 January that Venezuela will unveil its proposal for the creation of a multinational radio station called Radiosur, Radio of the South, at the upcoming summit meeting of Mercosur heads of state in Brazil on 18 and 19 January. Radiosur will incorporate a number of government-run radio stations from around Latin America to provide news and information, and expound the benefits of the integration process to countries in Africa, North America, Asia and Europe, said the report. The initiative was approved in March 2006 by delegates representing a number of state-owned and community radio stations from Argentina, Chile, Cuba, Ecuador and Venezuela.
