James Glassman, chairman of the US Broadcasting Board of Governors, says threats to press freedom around the world are boosting the need for accurate, objective transnational news sources. At a public forum in Washington, Glassman said many had hoped that the end of the Cold War would bring lasting press freedoms across the globe, but those hopes have not been fulfilled.

Would be nice if the Broadcast Board of Governors renewed the shortwave facilities they shut down during the past few years. It would aid greatly in the reception of programs from Voice of America!
