UK Light Radio begins 24h test broadcasts on the Internet

UKLR logoA new Internet radio service called UK Light Radio has started test broadcasts 24h a day. UK Light Radio is an associate station of Scottish-based Radio Six International. It describes its format as “a menu of mainly light music from dawn to dusk and throughout the night for “all ages across the ages”. UKLR aims to enlighten and reach new audiences, young and old, with music from many eras. Presenters include the former presenter of the Letterbox programme on BBC World Service, Margaret Howard. Other names well-known to older UK listeners are Pete Murray, Bob Holness and Paul Hollingdale.

The schedule is reminiscent of the old BBC Light Programme prior to its relaunch in 1967 as Radio 2.

Here in the Netherlands I cannot receive this station. Windows Media Player says it cannot make a connection. Hopefully they fix this problem soon.

It’s an MP3 stream pointed at by an ASX playlist. The direct link, for use with a player like Foobar2000, is http://uklr.radiosix.com/uklr.mp3

We are receiving you loud and clear in Thailand!

Good luck! its great to see UK radio expanding after the greedy so-and-so’s at the performing rights society had most UK radio taken of air last year.

Their website is now announcing a December test loop, but the stream doesn’t seem to be active yet.

Just checked and UK Light Radio is now carrying programmes rather than test announcements, currently Colin Berry with Christmas lights as per their schedule.

There are four Listen Live streams listed on their webpage, the first asx stream is distorted, the two mp3 streams are reasonable quality, the Real Stream has slight distortion.
