Turkmen president reprimands Communications Minister, fires TV boss

The President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, has signed a decree severely reprimanding Minister of Communications Ovlyaguly Dzhumagulyev for “unsatisfactory performance of official duties, poor management of subordinate agencies and enterprises, as well as poor work on developing the sphere of communication.”

The Minister has been warned that if he fails to correct promptly the drawbacks he will be relieved of his post, the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat quoting the press service of the President of Turkmenistan.

During the February 5 meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed dissatisfaction with the work of mass media, including national television, and criticized the director of TV channel “Turkmenistan”, Annamyrat Annaev. By the decree of the head of state, Mr Annaev was relieved of his post.

The Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports that the Deputy Minister of Culture and Broadcasting of Turkmenistan, Aymuhammet Orazmuhammedov, was charged to temporarily perform the duties of director of TV channel “Turkmenistan”. The President demanded that Vice Premier Majsa Yazmuhammedova take urgent steps to remedy the situation in the sphere of mass media.
