Thai troops have retaken an opposition TV station a day after protesters had forced them out of the building. The government says the TV station, known as People’s TV, incites unrest and has suspended its broadcasts. Hundreds of red-shirted protesters are massing on the station.
Earlier, the Thaicom Pcl satellite station about 60 km north of Bangkok was been the scene of the most violent incident to date in the month-old protests by supporters of ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Protestors stormed the building and demanded that the satellite transmissions of People’s TV be restored. They left the building when officials agreed to their request.
The protesters, numbering tens of thousands, are calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and fresh elections.
