Ten thousand posts and counting…

KeyboardI just noticed that we have passed the 10,000 posts mark in this Weblog. Actually, that’s not the complete number we’ve published as for the first six months or so we used a different program and the contents could not be transferred, so the numbering started again in October 2003. We also have, as I write this, 6855 comments. The number of comments increased substantially when we started using the current program (WordPress), which I think is due to the higher visibility of the latest comments from other users.

During 2008, the main page of this Weblog had the third highest number of page views of all the English pages on the RNW site. That’s very gratifying, especially as I have limited time to publish items on some days. The rest of the time I’m working on other sections of the website.

Thanks to all of you who read the Weblog regularly, and post your comments, corrections and supplementary information. I am especially pleased that so many media professionals find the Weblog interesting and useful. Many of our readers will be taking a break in the next couple of weeks. This year, the Weblog will be continuing as normal through the Christmas and New Year period, though I anticipate that there will be less media news to report.

“Thanks to all of you who read the Weblog regularly…”

Andy, I think we readers should be the ones saying thanks. Let me take this opportunity to say thank you for doing a brilliant job all year round. I read your weblog almost every day and, very often, one of your posts leads me to another site and from there I can end up surfing the web for ages but learning as I go, so it’s worth while.

There’s just one thing; I started reading this blog years ago because it is Dutch and because it has information about Dutch radio stations. However, sometimes I feel that it could be coming from anywhere, so it would be nice to see a little Dutch flavour to it for next year, even if it be just the Netherlands flag at the top of the site.

Anyway, congratulations on doing a great job. I should like to wish you a good Christmas and a sincerely Happy New Year. I think you deserve it.

And to you and all Dutch readers of this Radio Netherlands blog : Ik wens U prettige Kerstdagen en een voorspoedig 2009.

Thanks Steven. I have to make a judgement on which Dutch media news is likely to be of interest and/or directly useful to people outside the Netherlands. This blog is based on the kind of material we used to carry in the Media Network radio show that ran for 19 years. I have limited time available to translate media stories from Dutch to English and then to add the context that makes them understandable to a non-Dutch audience. But I will certainly bear your comments in mind and try to increase the proportion of Dutch media news.

    Hi Andy!

Always enjoy reading this blog. Unfortunately, I have been unable to post any comments here, due to the use of captcha, and the fact that there isn’t any audio captcha provided. Would be great in the future if there were some way around this for those of us who are totally blind. Managed to get around this with an add-on in Firefox called webvisum. Anyway, happy New Year to you all! Will definitly post more comments this year.
