Teledifusão de Macau to launch satellite TV channel

25 years after the initial broadcast, Teledifusão de Macau (TDM) is betting on a platform linking China and the Portuguese-speaking countries by launching a satellite TV channel, said the TV station’s CEO Manuel Gonçalves. He was speaking on the sidelines of the seminar “Macau as a platform to the cooperation between China and the Portuguese Language Countries in the Television domain”.

“This seminar is the first step to guarantee the success of TDM’s satellite channel in order to broadcast contents that allow Portuguese-speaking people to know better about China and also for Chinese people to know the Portuguese-speaking countries”, Gonçalves said. According to the TDM chief, there is always ”the right time for everything” and for five years “TDM has been stable enough to allow a new look at the future”.

By the end of this year TDM will broadcast on five digital channels and launch a satellite channel to connect China and the Portuguese-speaking countries through Macau. Gonçalves also explained that the contents of the new channel are not to be produced exclusively by TDM, adding that other TV stations from China and Portuguese-speaking countries will support the project by providing programme content.

I believe TDM can be a centre where China and the Portuguese-speaking countries can exchange and broadcast programmes”, he added.
