The April 26th, 1986 accident at the power plant known as Chernobyl-4 in Pripyat, Ukraine, is regarded as the worst in the history of nuclear power. Large areas of Ukraine, Belarus and Russia were badly contaminated, resulting in the evacuation and resettlement of roughly 300,000 people. The accident raised serious questions about nuclear safety. The issue of long-term health effects is controversial. Today’s Talk To America on VOA marks the anniversary with guests Adi Roche, founder and International Executive Director of the Chernobyl Children’s Project International, Inc., and a representative of the United Nations Development Program.
