If you’re a subscriber to the Media Network Newsletter, I apologise for the wrong date appearing on the latest edition, just sent out. I had some technical problems with the mailing programme, and had to have three attempts at creating this week’s Newsletter - I inadvertently forgot to change the date at the top on [...]

Back online after some technical problems!
I apologise for the unscheduled interruption to service for the last few days. I am currently taking some time away from the office, and I had some serious PC hardware and software problems which have taken several days to sort out. The only solution was to reinstall Windows, and I will spend much of today (Sunday) [...]
Weblog has resumed following short break
I have been taking a short break in the UK, so there have been no new entries in the Weblog since Thursday 7 October. I have now published the comments received while I was away that required moderation. Our media news service has resumed on Wednesday 13 October.

Weblog on hiatus until 20th May
As I shall be out of the country from 12-19 May inclusive, there will be no new entries in the Weblog until 20 May. This also means that, if you submit a comment but have not previously had any comments published in this Weblog, your comment will not be published until I return. My apologies [...]
RNW websites and blogs offline due to technical failure
Due to a technical failure this afternoon at Dutch Public Broadcasting (NPO), all RNW websites and blogs were offline for approximately 90 minutes, along with all the other websites and blogs hosted by NPO. A faulty cooling system in the data centre meant that all servers had to be switched off for approximately 90 minutes [...]
Happy New Year to all our readers
As we welcome 2010, I would like to wish all of you a Happy New Year. I have been producing this Weblog for over six years now with the support of many regular readers, including a lot of friends and colleagues in the international broadcasting industry.
Yesterday I received some information from my pension fund reminding [...]
Happy holidays to all our readers
I wish all readers of this blog the compliments of the season. Our normal service will continue through the Christmas and New Year period, though there’s likely to be less media news due to a large number of our regular sources being on holiday.

Message to commercial companies posing as readers
I have noticed an increase in the number of people trying to post links to commercial websites by posing as genuine readers posting banal comments. I have news for you: it won’t work. Radio Netherlands Worldwide is a public broadcaster, and by law we are not allowed to publish links to commercial sites except where [...]
We’ve changed our appearance, but it’s business as usual!
Regular readers of this blog will, I hope, notice that we have introduced a new look. My colleague Michiel Haijtink who runs the Wereldkids site for Dutch-speaking kids abroad developed the new design, and it will be phased in for other RNW blogs in the coming weeks.

Technical issues: slow performance, but everything works eventually!
I apologise to those of you noticing slow or unresponsive performance from this blog and the main RNW websites. There is an ongoing problem - there’s a fix, but it is causing unexpected problems on our Arabic website, so it had to be rolled back.
I also have reason to suspect that the comments facility was [...]
RNW websites and blogs offline Wednesday at 0400-0430 UTC
The RNW websites and blogs were supposed to be taken offline this morning to allow essential work to be carried out to fix the performance problems we have encountered in the past 10 days. Changes are to be made to some of the underlying database files which will hopefully lead to a big improvement. Unfortunately due [...]
Apologies to anyone receiving ‘proxy error’ messages
We are experiencing some performance issues that sometimes generate ‘proxy error’ messages when trying to access this blog. In case you receive an error message, please refresh the page in your browser or click on the link shown in the error message and it should connect normally. The problem has been reported. The error message [...]
Bookmarking Media Network items on the RNW website (update)
Some of the most visited pages from the Hitlist (links to other broadcasters) are back online. If you have bookmarked the Hitlist in the past, you will be automatically redirected to the new page. I suggest you update the bookmark with the new URL.
The automatic redirection is now working correctly in Internet Explorer. I apologise to IE users for the [...]
Media Network pages on website temporarily unavailable
The new-look RNW website went live this morning. The Media Network section on the main website is not yet available in the new format, so our links pages are temporarily offline. This will be fixed in the coming days. My apologies for any inconvenience. However, the complete RNW summer frequency schedule is available here.
To avoid any misunderstanding [...]
Weekly newsletter sent out following delay
Due to the commotion yesterday following the attack on the Dutch royal parade, the weekly Media Network Newsletter was not sent out yesterday. My apologies. It has now been mailed.
