The Swaziland Posts & Telecommunications Corporation (SPTC) is still scrutinising the applications submitted for radio broadcasting licences. Only five applications were submitted after the application process was restarted, following a disqualification of all existing radio station broadcasting licence applications by SPTC.
Applications for Commercial Radio Broadcasting Station licences were received from D’Nigma (Pty) Ltd (trading as D fm), Faze II Media (trading as One fm) and the Council of Swaziland Churches (trading as Radio Grace). The Seventh Day Adventist Church (Manzini Region) and the Lubombo Community Multi Media (Lubombo Community Radio) submitted applications for Community–Based Radio Broadcasting Station licences.
During an interview, SPTC’s Richard Mabuza said: “At this stage, we are still going over the applications and there is nothing more I can say.” However, he managed to add that they met last week and another meeting is scheduled to discuss the same issue. “I can’t predict when everything will be finalised,” he went on to say.
To ensure the highest level of transparency, Mr Mabuza echoed his Managing Director E Nathi Dlamini by saying that they would keep the nation informed of the all critical steps concerning the manner in which the entire decision making process is managed. “We made the undertaking that we would inform the public when everything is finalised,” he said.
