ShortWaveMusic blog reactivated

We stumbled across the ShortWaveMusic blog which was recently reactivated. Myke Weiskopf is a writer, shortwave avatar, and sound-artist from Somerville, MA. He describes the purpose of the blog thus: “Shortwavemusic is not a hi-fidelity, Westernized “world music” experience. I celebrate the unique sonic characteristics of shortwave and frequently post clips which are subject to the effects of propagation and interference. Not for the faint of heart! ”

On 14 March Mike wrote: “It’s been over a year since this blog was last updated. In the meantime, I’ve been engaged in all sorts of diversions, both literary and musical. To this end, I’m pleased to announce a new record - my first in six years - which documents my lifelong fusion of melancholy electronics, found sound, and shortwave sound-splices. 30: A Retrospective 1976-2006 contains 31 pieces from throughout my life, an audio travelogue which even includes some excerpts from Shortwavemusic among the sonic detritus. It’s a memoir of the first 30 years of my radio-damaged life.”

Myke is both talented and innovative–apart from being an all-around nice guy. We’ve had the pleasure of both his company and his talents at the Winter SWL Fest, in “concert” (literally and figuratively) with David Goren, the noted NPR producer, presenting The Listening Lounge on Friday nights the last few years. Unfortunately, Myke couldn’t be with us this year, but we very much hope we are already in his schedule for 2008.
