Serious Request 2010 raises record amount for AIDS orphans

The Dutch fundraiser Serious Request 2010 has raised the record amount of 7,135,707 euros for AIDS orphans in Africa. Last year Serious Request raised 7,113,446 euros, but the amount included a three-million-euro donation from the Dutch government.

3FM DJ’s Giel Beelen, Gerard Ekdom and Coen Swijnenberg spent one week locked up in the Glass House in the southeastern city of Eindhoven, during which period they were not allowed to eat. They spent the week raising money for African AIDS orphans on behalf of the International Red Cross.

The fundraiser included a closing concert featuring artists Marco Borsato, Guus Meeuwis, Alain Clark, Ilse de Lange and the band Bløf, which spent the final night of the fundraiser in the Glass House.
