Russia: Dagestani rebels reportedly launch new “official” website

Text of report by Chechen rebel internet news agency Kavkaz-Tsentr

30 December: The website www.vdagestan.com has been granted a status of the official website of the province of Dagestan [of the jihadist Caucasus emirate], the plenipotentiary representative of the amir [commander] of the province of Dagestan abroad told Kavkaz-Tsentr.

It is reported that the website will post statements by the province’s leadership and addresses by mojahedin.

The website will also post news from Dagestan.

[BBCM note: In August 2010, the then rebel leader of Dagestan, Sayfullakh, declared the website Jamaatshariat.com official website of the Dagestani rebels. Sayfullakh said in his statement that "all official reports in the media that do not link to the original reports posted on the Jamaat Shariat website will be regarded as potential provocation". As of 30 December, Jamaatshariat.com was not observed to post any announcement about vdagestan.com becoming official website of the Dagestani rebels]
