Dutch regional public broadcaster RTV Rijnmond, which is in financial crisis, this morning announced that 29 jobs are to go out of a total of around 140. The cuts have been spread evenly across radio and TV. The job losses mean there will be changes to the programming of both outlets, but Director Eric Wehrmeijer promised that that they will have minimimal impact on viewers and listeners. Management at RTV Rijnmond say they hope this painful process will put the organisation back on a sound financial footing, and guarantee a continuation of the financial subsidy from the Provincial government of South-Holland. The Province had indicated that RTV Rijnmond had to show more fiscal responsibility or risk losing its subsidy. A meeting to decide future financial support for the regional broadcaster will be held on 18 February.
