Irish public broadcaster RTÉ and digital TV provider NTL are to start broadcasting RTÉ 1 and RTÉ 2 programmes in widescreen through NTL’s TV services. The two companies says the aim of this initiative is to offer the panoramic picture quality of RTÉ’s widescreen programming and transmit it in digital format from the production facility direct to the viewer’s television. The majority of RTÉ’s programmes will be broadcast in widescreen this Autumn and in the coming Spring months.
