RFI personnel vote to extend strike

The strike at Radio France International (RFI) was extended today for a further 24 hours to give management more time to completely withdraw the social plan that foresees 206 job losses.  According to the management, only 3% of the personnel, mainly technicians, are on strike. The four unions that called the strike insist that the social plan has no economic justification, and they have asked the management to limit the job losses to voluntary departures and to withdraw the threat of forced redundancies.

Today the corporation of journalists of RFI (SDJ) denounced comments made by by Christine Ockrent, number two at the station, in an interview in which she said she was opposed to RFI journalists covering the Festival of Cannes.

“Evidently certain employees, non-strikers but who support the movement, did not deprive themselves of the opportunity to descend on the Festival of Cannes, to make reports and record debates while knowing that all this work never would be broadcast,” said Mrs Ockrent.

That’s a very important decision by RFI in regards to extend the strike.
