Radio Netherlands Worldwide: Nominees for the international Rembrandt contest

The names of the 18 nominees for the international contest ‘Inspired by Rembrandt’ have been released by Radio Netherlands Worldwide. Artists from a number of countries including Colombia, Peru, Indonesia, the United States and the Netherlands can win a special workshop at the renowned Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. The public plays an important role in choosing the winner: until 1 December everyone can cast their votes on the www.rembrandt.rnw.nl website. 

The ‘Inspired by Rembrandt’ competition is a Radio Netherlands Worldwide attempt to find a contemporary Rembrandt van Rijn. Visual artists from around the globe have entered their names via the www.rembrandt.rnw.nl website. The award ceremony will take place at the Stopera in Amsterdam on 14 December. The winning works of art will then be put on display in the Amsterdam town hall. 

Nominees
The nominated works were created by Aldo Carhuancho Herrera from Peru, M Hambali from Indonesia, Xochiquetzal Vazquez Salgado from Mexico, Rose Freymuth-Frazier and Carole Garmon from the United States, Lorena Villareal Fuentes from Colombia and Reginaldo Goncalves from Ghana. Ten Dutch artists were also nominated: Titus Dekker, Roger Braun, Ellen Star Horst, Gertie van Nuenen, Erik Tierolf, Monique Schumacher, Joke van Vliet, Enrique Collar, Jacqueline van den Bos en Anita Edridge. 

Jury
The nominated artists were selected from a total of 150 entries. The winner will be selected by offsetting the votes from the general public against the votes from the professional jury.
