Radio Mi Amigo to broadcast on 1602 kHz on Sunday

To mark 35 years since the start of the original Radio Mi Amigo as an offshore station, the Dutch Internet station of the same name will be broadcasting via the mediumwave transmitter of Radio Waddenzee on 1602 kHz from the radio ship Jenni Baynton on Sunday 30 August from 0800-1700 UTC. Programmes will be presented by some of the current DJs and also some of the original DJs.

The radio ship will be anchored in the harbour at Harlingen, Friesland. It’s not stated whether the transmitter on board the ship or the regular landbased transmitter will be in use for this broadcast. A TV crew from Belgian public broadcaster VRT will also be filming during the day as part of a documentary they are making about the founder of Radio Mi Amigo, Sylvain Tack.

It is to be hoped for the users of Harlingen Harbour that will not fire up the board TX

Good point Ruud. I am surprised how well I can receive their landbased transmitter in the Hilversum area, but it helps to have a GE Superadio that I bought many years ago in Philadelphia :-)

Thanks for the clarification Peter. I always thought Radio Mi Amigo had the best jingle package of any of the offshore stations. I still have an old 45 rpm record with jingles on one side and the Mi Amigo theme tune on the other :-)

Unfortunately I won’t have time to travel to Harlingen, but I will certainly try to listen to some of the broadcast. I hope it’s a great day for you.

My GE Superadio III that I bought by mail order from a store in Chicago is now kaput. Any idea where I might be able to buy it or its successor now.

Alastair, your best bet is ebay. Sadly Amazon doesn’t carry Superadio anymore.

Just had a look at Amazon and have seen the RCA badged Superadio, which looks identical, selling new for $32-ish. It’s on .com but not .co.uk.
