The Dutch Christian Democrats (CDA), the party of Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende, believe that public broadcasters should be allowed to sell programmes to commercial broadcasters, provided the revenue is used to directly support the public broadcaster’s core activities. That was stated in the media programme of BNR Nieuwsradio by Joop Atsma, the CDA’s media spokesperson. Atsma said he was thinking especially of material produced by regional public broadcasters, some of which deserve a national audience.
