Panama chooses IBOC over DRM as digital broadcasting standard

After reviewing several digital radio technologies, the Republic of Panama has selected the HD Radio in-band, on channel (IBOC) system as its official digital radio standard. In Decree No. 96, the Panamanian government states that it selected IBOC technology after the country’s Digital Broadcasting Technical Commission reviewed IBOC, Eureka 147 and DRM (Digital Radio Mondiale).

I wonder how much time was spent looking at technology, rather than practicalities and geography, taking into account Panama’s small size, and proximity to the USA. HD Radio would appear to be the standard that is being adopted by the NTSC TV countries in America.

I wonder, what will hapen when they fnd out that IBLOCK simply doesn’t work, and there is no way to get past the hybrid-hump without destroying analog. With the US broadcasters turning off IBLOCK, perhaps the excess equipment is going to the Panamas. What a complete joke:

A HD radio doesn’t recieve the DRM shortwave service. A DRM reciver can be in use all over the world.
