Pakistani president cracks down on media - broadcasting minister resigns

As the political crisis in Pakistan continues to worsen, the President has ordered cable operators to shut off the Geo TV and Royal TV networks, apparently to restrict news coverage of a planned march by lawyers. According to Geo TV, the President has asked them to “withdraw their support” for the lawyers’ march in return for their channel’s reinstatement.

In response, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting has resigned from the Federal Cabinet on such. She had previously said that she would resign if the President and his advisers act against the freedom of media and the press.
