Pakistan’s Ministry of Youth Affairs has decided to launch full fledged youth FM station with programmes containing information and entertainment. Federal Minister for Youth Affairs Shahid Hussain Bhutto, talking to the Associated Press of Pakistan news agency, said that currently the ministry is broadcasting a youth programme from Radio Pakistan, “Hum Nawjawan”, which is getting a lot of feedback from the youth, so the ministry has now decided to launch a separate Youth FM radio station.
He said that this Youth FM station will focus on the youth related problems and ministry officials will join programmes to respond the questions of the youth regarding different youth empowerment projects. The minister said that the role of FM radio has become very important and more effective as it acted as a community-based radio because of its limited area of coverage and local content.
He said Youth FM radio could be used to educate and inform the grassroots, besides allowing the youth talent to come forward and express themselves. “Radio is a powerful medium and through quality programmes it can make a telling contribution towards educating as well as entertaining the general public” he said.
