NRC International ends RNW partnership

The partnership between Radio Netherlands Worldwide and the international website of daily NRC Handelsblad is set to end in mid-June. NRC has been under new ownership since last year. Newly appointed Publishing Director Hans Nijenhuis told NRC staff on Wednesday that the company will focus on the printed papers nrc.next and NRC Handelsblad, and is to wind down “unprofitable activities” such as its English-language website, the Focus business magazine, nrc.tv and book publishing.

Since January 2009, the English websites of privately-owned NRC and publicly-funded broadcaster RNW have exchanged articles, news items and sports reports. Although this form of collaboration will be terminated soon, the successful partnership between the Dutch paper and RNW’s Dutch activities will continue. In the past months, reporters from both media working in close collaboration unveiled a number of child sex abuse cases in Roman Catholic institutions in the Netherlands.
