The transition to digital TV transmission has been completed in Norway. On Monday 1 December, the last analogue transmitters in Finnmark were closed down, completing the work which began in 2007. The digital terrestrial network provides the entire country with a broad-based range of TV and radio channels. Initially, 24 TV channels and 16 radio channels are offered. The transition is said to be the biggest change in technology in the history of television in Norway.
The digital ground-based network consists of approximately 430 masts on mountain tops and ridges. 2006-2008 new transmitting equipment was installed on existing masts and antennas across the country.
