Yesterday’s Queen’s speech at the state opening of the Dutch parliament did not contain what Public Broadcasting had been hoping for. The domestic broadcasters had asked for 35 million euros extra for 2007 - 20 million for strengthening their programming, and 15 million for crossmedial activities. But the extra money has not been allocated by the government, which only has a few weeks left before the general election in November. A total of 760 million euros have been allocated for media, which includes financing the Dutch Media Authority. The public broadcasters hope that they will be able to get support from the new government to release the extra funds.
