Nigeria: Independent radio/TV station for Efon-Alaaye soon

An independent radio and television station is to be established at Efon-Alaaye, Ekiti State. A former board chairman of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Chief Biola Olasope, said in Lagos that the project had so far gulped N150 million. He told NAN that the project was being sponsored by an indigenous firm, “Ekiti-Sope Radio Television Ekiti Kete, Ekiti”.

Olasope, also a former Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), hinged the choice of Efon-Alaaye on the topographical advantage of the ancient town. According to him, the hills in the town hold the promise of excellent signals and favourable reception. He further said that the station was expected to be received in more than three neighbouring countries, “up to the Ghanian border town of Aflao, for economic gains”.

Olasope, a veteran broadcast journalist, is an indigene of the town. He disclosed that Rev George Bako, a former Director-General of FRCN and the engineering consultant to the project, had already inspected the site, which had received the blessing of the traditional ruler of the town, Oba Emmanuel Aladere.

No doubt it would further boost the image of this kingdom and Nigeria. People are praying for the success of this thoughtful project.
