New satellite channel begins trial broadcasts in Sudan

Excerpt from report by private Sudanese newspaper Al-Ra’y al-Amm on 14 March

Trial broadcasting for a new private satellite channel, Al-Amal, started yesterday. Al-Amal crew includes a number of media specialists and learned Sudanese who prepare and present comprehensive programmes for Sudanese and Arab viewers.

Speaking to Al-Ra’y al-Amm, the owner of the media channel, Dr Awadh Ibrahim Awadh, said that the channel’s editorial line is purely national and that it carries a message to the whole Islamic world.

He added that all preparations had been made to offer an integrated media service to the Sudanese viewers who would find a variety of programmes that include news and political programmes as well as a variety of other cultural, sports and children programmes. [Passage omitted]
