NASA is planning to celebrate Earth Day on Wednesday by broadcasting high-definition images of the planet taken from the International Space Station. The US space agency said yesterday it will broadcast its high definition feed on NASA TV and on its website. The broadcasts are part of several NASA activities aimed to raise awareness of global climate issues for Earth Day on April 22, including an exhibit in Washington on environmental issues as seen from space.
The ISS and its permanent crew of three astronauts orbit Earth every 90 minutes some 220 miles (354 kilometers) above the planet. They can see 16 sunrises and sunsets each day.
