I’m pleased to announce that Jonathan Marks, who produced and presented Media Network on Radio Netherlands from 1981-2000, has launched the Media Network Vintage Vault, an audio archive of some of the best and most requested editions. Eight programmes are already available for download as MP3 files, and more will be added. The programmes currently available are:
- Lithuanian Special: January 1991
- RNI Libya: March 1991
- Wartime Deception Part 1: 1993
- Mozambique Special: 1 April 1983
- Media Wars Propaganda Past & Present Episode 4: summer 1982
- Media Wars Propaganda Past & Present Episode 5: summer 1982
- Latin American Clandestine Special: Feb 1983
- BFBS Falklands: May 1982
I have added a link to the archive site in the sidebar of this blog.

Thank for you getting your old shows online and available to us. I can’t wait to listen. Are there plans to do the same for “Happy Station”?

This is fantastic news! Someone has been reading my mind because I’ve recently been listening to the last 15 editions of the show (MP3 format downloaded from WRN all those years ago).
If more editions were added to the collection I for one would be very happy indeed! I really do miss this brilliant show, and the shortwave era.
Thank you Jonathan and Andy.

This is a personal initiative of Jonathan, who has many of the original tapes in his collection. There are some Happy Station programmes already online in the RNW Historical Audio Archive. Visit http://blogs.rnw.nl/haa?s=%22happy+station%22 to see what’s available.

I see the podcasts have now popped up in iTunes. You need to be in the iTunes store and search for “Media Network Vintage”. As “new” editions are added, they will download automatically into your MP3 player. There is no subscription charge.

This is good news. Jonathan Marks is to be lauded, generously complimented, and continually praised for this project. It is clearly a valuable archive. And the price is right.

That’s great! Gentlemen, thank you so much for your efforts!
When I listen to those historic programs I feel a bit sad though. It’s clear that no SW-related shows of this caliber will ever be produced. Never ever…

SRG,
I agree. We had a lot of great DX programs in the 1980’s including Media Network. I doubt they’ll ever be matched. And besides, nowadays so many listen via the Internet I fear shortwave listening is dying.
I have been a SWL for 30 years and I too find it simply easier to tune to Internet streams.
