Malaysia’s Information Ministry has proposed that the Murut language currently broadcast over the Radio Keningau FM station be broadcast globally in the future. Its minister, Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek, said this could be done over the Internet.
“There is much uniqueness of the Murut community, including in Pensiangan, that can be shown to the outside world. I believe that with the broadcasting of the Murut language over the Internet, the culture of the Muruts can be widely displayed,” he said at the launch of the state-level ‘Layar Bestari’, a mobile cinema service.
He said his ministry would look into the woes of the Pensiangan folks in relation to the poor reception of RTM’s broadcast by ensuring that the redevelopment project in telecommunications could be carried out in the state.
