Langkawi FM, the only radio station based on this resort island in Malaysia, began broadcasting today with 15 programmes in Malay and English with the hope of attracting at least 65,000 listeners, including in Perlis, Penang, Perak and Kedah.
Langkawi FM Broadcasting Director Yasmin Yusoff said the station, previously known as Radio Tiga Langkawi which transmitted daily from 6 am to midnight on 104.8 MHz, had managed to capture an audience of about 53,000. She said that Radio Tiga Langkawi had been in operation from Nov 1, 2003 and had its name changed to Langkawi FM following a rebranding exercise by its owner, Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) recently.
