CBC/Radio-Canada announced today that Kirstine Stewart, since August 2010 the interim executive vice-president of English Services, has been appointed to the position, responsible for the national public broadcaster’s English Services. The change is effective immediately.
CBC on its various platforms is experiencing significant success with Canadian audiences. Its combined radio market share of 14.7 percent is a historic high level. Its television share has grown from 6.7 percent to a high of 9.3 percent over the past five years, making it the only conventional Canadian network whose audience share has grown consistently in recent years. Its digital platform CBC.ca is among the country’s most popular online information sites, attracting millions of visits per month. CBC News continues as one of the most respected and authoritative news organizations in the world.
Prior to her current role, Ms Stewart was general manager of CBC Television beginning in April 2006. She was senior vice-president of programming at Alliance Atlantis, 2003—06. She is a member of the Forum of Young Global Leaders, selected to advise the World Economic Forum. She was named Woman of the Year, 2010 by Canadian Women In Communications and was selected as one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women Top 100 for 2007 by the Women’s Executive Network. In 2006, she was one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 and was recognized by Marketing Magazine when it named CBC as Media Player of the Year 2009.

I just heard this show on CBC radio, I can’t believe that my tax dollars contribute to such pulp. Fortunately, it is followed by The Vinyl Tap, a salve of sorts.
