Kenya Broadcasting Corporation inviting proposals for US technical assistance

KBC logoThe Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) is inviting the submission of qualifications and proposal data from interested US firms which are qualified on the basis of experience and capability to develop a technical assistance program that will develop a business plan that will allow KBC to expand its signal and increase its delivery of service in more local languages

KBC requested the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) assistance to develop, design and propose a technical evaluation of the KBC network, with a view of using the report to raise money for the implementation of the same from donors including the development of four priority projects. The project will also include an appropriate training and mentorship program to help KBC implement that plan. The four priority projects are:

  • Project 1 - Build out of Network Infrastructure to reach 100% of Kenya and Eastern Africa Region
  • Project 2 - Create LAN/ WAN Networks
  • Project 3 - Redesign News Radio and TV Service Delivery and update production facilities
  • Project 4 - Develop Archive Resources and digitize all records.

KBC has determined that all of the proposals submitted in response to the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation Business Planning Technical Assistance Request for Proposal (deadline date September 28, 2006), lacked sufficient experience in the broadcasting field, including regional and business qualifications, and so were not fully responsive to the award criteria. As a result, KBC requested that USTDA repost the Request for Proposal. KBC says previous bidders are welcome to submit a revised proposal. The new deadline for submission of bids is 4:00PM (local time Nairobi), February 6, 2007.
