The Ministry of Communications & Information Technologies (MCIT) in Azerbaijan is continuing the coordination process for its satellite licensing by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). “We constantly answer the ITU inquiries relating to data on our satellite and send regularly to it the requested documents. The ITU intends to allot an orbital slot by the end of 2008. After that we will launch the satellite project,” the Ministry said.
Availability of the national satellite will allow the organization of high-quality and reliable communications, broadcasting, and an increased number of channels. If the national satellite covers the territory of Europe, then Azerbaijan will be able to become a transit country for broadcasting of channels of Europe and Asia. Azerbaijan intends to commission its satellite by 2010.
