IRIB will not broadcast Shajarian works

Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) has announced it will stop broadcasting songs performed by prominent vocalist Mohammad Reza Shajarian. “Despite IRIB’s investment in some of Shajarian’s pieces, we decided to halt the broadcast of his works on Iranian radio networks,” Mohammad-Hossein Soufi, head of the IRIB Radio department told ISNA.

Shajarian has rejected any IRIB involvement in the production of his works and says he owns the copyright to his works. “None of his works will be broadcast on radio from now on. The restriction includes his prayers for the holy month of Ramadan,” Mr Soufi said.
