Indonesia’s first national broadcasting jamboree opened today in Gorontalo on Sulawesi island. Called JAMSINAS, the four-day event has been organised by Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI). It will feature newsreading and reporting competitions, seminars, exhibitions and cultural events. About 500 people are expected to take part, including participants from Iran, Japan, Laos, Malaysia and Sweden. RRI’s President Director, Parni Hadi, said one of the event’s aims was the empowerment of community broadcasting.
The jamboree will also see the formal launch of a new association, the Alliance of Indonesian Radio Journalists or ALWARRI, on Saturday. Another highlight will be a mass tree planting in a national conservation forest tomorrow as part of RRI’s Green Radio project. RRI launched the environmental campaign in Indonesia last year after the ABU Programme Department adopted the initiative in November 2008. Its aim is to highlight the issue of climate change and promote solutions.
