Sláger Rádió may continue broadcasting on 12 frequencies across Hungary owned by Rádió 1 from the middle of November. A Ft 2 billion contract was reportedly signed by Sláger owner Emmis Communications and Rádió 1. Sláger CEO Edina Heal neither confirmed nor denied the report.
Meanwhile Advenio, one of the winners of the controversial radio frequencies tender, has sued Democratic Forum leader Ibolya Dávid for slander, the company’s lawyer Barnabás Futó told Magyar Hírlap. The company took legal action after Dávid released an open letter calling the company incompetent and saying that the decision by media watchdog ORTT to award it a nationwide frequency smacked of political corruption.
Both Fidesz and Socialist delegates supported the decision to take the frequencies from Sláger and Danubius and award them to companies with little or no experience, prompting suspicions of a tacit agreement. Sláger Rádió staged a concert and rally against the ORTT decision in the City Park last night.
