This article brings back beautiful memories of my first stay in Israel as a volunteer at kibbutz Palmahim in the summer of 1987. The radio was on everywhere I went (at work, in the dining room, in the shops, in people’s homes and cars, even on the beach..), and everyone seemed to be listening to the Voice of Peace. I also thought that it was the best station I had ever heard. I loved it so much that I recorded several tapes of music and still listen to them once in a while. It offered such a great selection of Israeli and international music. I didn’t know at the time that the ship had originally sailed from Amsterdam. I remember being explained that it was.

I have similar happy memories of my stint as a volunteer on Kibbutz Geva in 1979 - I only have to hear the Voice of Peace “somewhere in the Mediterranean” jingle and I’m back feeding those chickens!
