Ghana: GBC restructuring document to be ready 7 March

The Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, William Ampem Darko, said the Corporation is working hard to come out with a working document on the restructuring of the corporation by 7 March. Restructuring, he noted, is dear to the hearts of people both in and outside the corporation. Mr Ampem Darko was addressing a delegation of the National Media Commission (NMC) at Broadcasting House in Accra.

The delegation was on a familiarization visit to find out measures the corporation has put in place to ensure equal coverage of all political parties in the upcoming general elections and some of the constraints facing the corporation.

Mr Ampem Darko said the issue of restructuring GBC has been on the drawing board for sometime now. He pointed out that GBC as a public broadcaster is handicapped in the performance of its duties as a result of financial constraints. On the question of fair coverage of political activities, he said that they have already met with leaders of the 7 political parties.

The chairman of the commission Paul Adu Gyamfi expressed confidence in the management of GBC and assured the corporation of full support. He said NMC is yet to call a forum on the broad guidelines of how media houses should carry activities of political parties.
