From 1 March, the Georgian Public Broadcaster will broadcast daily TV news bulletins in the languages of national minorities, Director-General Giorgi Chanturia revealed at a briefing following a meeting with representatives of NGOs dealing with national minorities’ problems.
Mr Chanturia noted that the news programme “Moambe” was currently broadcast for ethnic minorities once a week, but he acknowledged that this is not enough, and this has been cofirmed through research conducted in the cities of Marneuli [predominantly ethnic Azerians] and Akhalkalaki [predominantly ethnic Armenians]. So from 1 March news for minorities will be broadcast daily. “The main purpose of the new format is promptly informing of national minorities”, said Mr Chanturia.
