Fiji’s military rulers are intending to set up their own TV channel to promote their aims and objectives, ABC News reports. Radio New Zealand has obtained a leaked document which reveals Fiji’s interim government wants its own channel on Fiji TV and is also hoping to take over 12 pages of the Fiji Sun newspaper.
Government spokesman Major Neumi Leweni said plenty of other countries controlled the news. He said the interim government hoped to have the new TV channel up and running next week.
The military regime has been deporting foreign journalists, arresting local reporters and censoring the news.
