Dutch spending more time on the Internet

People in the Netherlands are spending an increasing amount of time on the Internet. The average online time in 2009 was 7 hours a week, but has now risen to 8.3 hours weekly. One quarter of Dutch people aged thirteen years and older surf the Internet on a mobile, compared to last year’s 18 percent.

This is shown by half-yearly figures from GfK Intomart in partnership with the Internet Foundation (STIR) and United Internet Operators (VINEX) announced today. The total number of Internet users in the first half of 2010 rose to 86 percent of all Dutch people aged over 13 (was 83 percent in 2009). 70 percent of 50 plussers are active on the Internet. For those aged 13-34 years, Internet penetration is now 100 percent. At 14.5 hours per week, they are the most intensive users of the Internet.

The study was conducted among two thousand Dutch people 13 years and older.
