The Dutch radio listening figures for Jan/Feb 2010 have been published by research bureau Intomart GfK. Radio 538 has returned to its position as market leader, but only just, as public network Radio 2 is a mere 0.1 percent behind. It was a good month for the public broadcasters: the market share of news and talk network Radio 1 has increased further to 7.5 percent of all listeners aged 10 and above. Another public network, Radio 5 - aimed at older listeners - has also seen its share rise significantly, and it is now in the Top 10 for the first time. Radio 3FM has lost market share in the past month, but it is still significantly higher than a year ago. The regional public broadcasters, too, improved their cumulative share compared to last month, though it is still one percent down on a year ago.
As for the commercial stations, Sky Radio has dropped 1.2 percent compared with last month, but 100%NL had a good month and has regained some of the listeners who were apparently listening to seasonal music elsewhere on the dial in December/January. BNR Nieuwsradio has increased its market share to one percent and seen its weekly reach go up from just over half a million to nearly 700,000 in the past year.
This time we are giving the comparative share for Dec/Jan followed by the share for one year ago, so you can see the long-term trends. What’s notable is how steady stations such as Radio 10 Gold and Classic FM have been despite not having terrestrial FM distribution. The demise of Arrow, which saw it lose two FM networks, is also clear to see.
