Correction: CNN International will continue its analogue satellite service in Europe

A story we published yesterday, from a normally reliable Dutch source, said that CNN International was ending its analogue satellite service via Astra at 19.2 degrees East. We have now been informed by Matthijs Spits, Public Relations Manager for CNN Benelux, that the story is incorrect. CNN will continue broadcasting its analogue service. We apologize for the error. The story has now been removed from the Weblog.

I do apologize too, my source told me that CNN would cease all its analogue transmissions into Germany including Astra-1. It now appears to only be the case for some bigger cable-networks. However. it may not be too long before the analogue signal may eventually disappear since no new contracts for Analogue transmission will be proposed by Astra as Satellite tv is mainly digital nowoadays and Astra urgently needs digital bandwith whereas it is now used for over 40 Analogue transmitters. A request for information from Astra concering this issue is pending.
