China Radio International launches new domestic FM channel

China Radio International is to hold the official launch of a new domestic channel Wednesday. It’s called CRI Newsradio and broadcasts in Beijing on 90.5 FM. The new station broadcasts 24 hours a day and features news, current affairs, finance, sports and entertainment programmes in Chinese and in foreign languages. CRI NewsRadio exploits the distinctive features and advantages of China Radio International, backed by 29 bureaus around the globe. Locals interested in international news and other cultures, as well as foreigners living in China, are expected to be the new channel’s major audience.

Note: CRI Newsradio was reported to have launched on 900 kHz mediumwave on 28 June. Presumably this is the launch of the station on FM for the first time.

This new channel has 4 hours of live programming a day. Yes it\’s 24 hours but with a 4 hour rotation, with newscasts being updated every 4 hours on weekdays, and 7 hours on weekends.
